Customer Loyalty towards Convenience Stores

By | Uncategorized

Are convenience stores holding
their ground against supermarkets?

Why are convenience stores firmly standing their ground against the big supermarkets? Convenience stores have over one-fifth of the total grocery market resulting in a total value of sales of £39.1bn. As of 2018, there are over 45,000 convenience stores in mainland UK compared to around 6,000 supermarkets. This immediately suggests that location is a leading factor in customer loyalty.

Having a store in an accessible location is crucial to capitalise on time-poor shoppers allowing them to grab some groceries on their way home from work. Due to the close proximity of these stores, often within ¼ mile, research shows that 54% of consumers walk to them. Consumers will opt for the easiest and most accessible option, increasing loyalty towards convenience stores.

The lifestyle of the consumer influences loyalty towards certain stores, whether that is convenience stores or supermarkets. Many smaller households will focus on shopping for what they need over the next couple of days; resulting in loyalty towards convenience stores. With more and more convenience stores offering additional services, there is a greater incentive for consumers to use these stores and therefore purchase more.  These other services include cash machines, post offices and pharmacies.

Convenience stores have a lot of valuable real estate, and Amazon is looking to partner with existing businesses to host drop-off locations.

Additionally, 29% of convenience stores have introduced a loyalty card scheme providing discounts to regular customers, providing the incentive for the customer to return regularly. With almost every major supermarket offering a loyalty scheme, it created a tremendous amount of competition for convenience stores to compete. Rewards and offers must be targeted to each specific consumer to make them feel valued and identified, further increasing loyalty towards the convenience brand.

“Latestop” opened a new store in Dorset which, since opening, has traded at 25% over budget. The store offers a range of chilled, fresh and frozen foods, food to go, Costa coffee, a free ATM, PayPoint, contactless payment and lottery tickets. These are prime examples of services that convenience stores can use to increase loyalty and ease for consumers.

Ooh A.A.H, Instagram…

Social media is one of the biggest marketing platforms in the world, but are you using it effectively?

We follow 3 simple categories, which will help you master your company’s Instagram. We call these categories A.A.H.!

Did you know Instagram has over 25 million business profiles?

The most effective way to utilise Instagram advertising is to ask yourself “what’s my ultimate goal”. This ensures your brand message that is being delivered to your customers is consistent and effective.

A.A.H. stands for:

  • Awareness
  • Attention
  • Hook

When considering the material to post it is important you don’t always sell, sell and sell. First of all, you want to ensure that your audience is aware of what it is you sell or the service you provide. This will increase your brand awareness and contribute to your engagement rates.

Once your brand is established and your audience is aware of what it is you offer, start to give your audience something to grab their attention. This may be through the use of a video diverting your audience to your website or a blog post about the industry that you are in.

You will want to start trying to hook  your audience with posts once you notice that your business has started to gain traction and your socials are gaining a wider audience. At this point, selling your product or service will be pushed more so than gaining awareness. However, it is not always necessary to follow these categories in a specific order, adapt your posts to suit your business audience.

Effectively the sheet will pass through many rollers applying different coloured ink at each stage, producing a dazzling piece of artwork. The journey each sheet will take is very fascinating to watch and our Mauveologists carefully mix the ink to deliver the high-quality print we all expect.

General substrates for this machine will include paper, folding boxboard, PVC, polypropylene, self-adhesive vinyl and window cling. This provides printing flexibility in regards to the material we can use.

HP 10000 Digital Flatbed Printers

Can you print on toast?

We are proud of the fact that we can produce all point-of-sale campaign items in-house; this is due to the versatility of the printing equipment that we have in our factory.  We also make our own packaging, guaranteeing that campaigns are delivered into stores undamaged.

Today we are going to focus on our two HP Scitex FB10000, flatbed printers. Did you know that we were the first people in the country to install them? In essence, these are massive inkjet printers with the added benefit that it can print on anything up to 25 mm thick; even toast!

The flexibility and versatility enable us to print any medium including Foam PVC, polystyrene (HIPS), fluted polypropylene, synthetic paper, paper, foam board, corrugated cardboard, compressed cardboard, and print up to 1.6 metres by 3.2 metres.  We can also print the exact quantity that we require; no run-through or waste!  This makes it perfect for printing onto expensive materials, producing one-off samples and the size enables us to put multiple items on at the same time.

It is mesmerising to watch the bed pass back and forth under the print heads with additional layers of ink being added with each pass.  With each one being able to print 650 m² per hour, these presses alone allow us to print over 11 million m² of campaign material per year.  It’s also surprising how quickly it can produce posters and floor standing display units (FDSU) ready for finishing.

An excellent example of these machines working to their full capacity was a recent pan-European campaign that we completed for Monster.  We produced over 5,000 FSDUs and shipped them to multiple locations in seven countries.

Did you know that we were the first people in the country to install these presses?

Come and see these printers at work in our factory; you will be mesmerised watching the bed pass back and forth under the print heads with additional layers of ink building up with each pass.
