MauveFulfilment expands storage

The supply chain and logistics industry is growing and evolving at an ever-increasing rate. What was once in large part a B2B focused industry, is now moving into the realm of B2C fulfilment. At Mauveworx we have recognised this growing shift and over the last 12-18 months have put plans in place to expand our MauveFulfilment offering to begin incorporating B2C fulfilment as well as expanding our capacity and efficiency surrounding picking and despatch for our print and Goods Not For Resale customers.

Phase 1 of this process is now nearing completion with building of our new mezzanine (mezz) floor in our logistics facility.

When we initially discussed our plans for warehouse expansion, there were two main objectives; to generate more storage space (around 350 square foot of floor space) and also improve efficiencies in the pick and despatch process.

When we analysed our order flows, we noticed that for some customers we were experiencing much slower pick and despatch times, when we looked closer, we found these were the customers located the furthest from the office, which involved our operative having to travel down a flight of stairs, across the warehouse floor, up another flight of stairs and then all the way down the other side of the warehouse. The new mezz dissects the two sections, allowing the operative to travel as the crow flies across the building, bringing them straight into the middle of the other side of the warehouse.

On average we calculated an average saving of 1 minute per order, saving around 260 hours a year of staff hours.

At MauveFulfilment we identified that to keep up with customers’ demand it was not just integral to create more capacity but to also find efficient strategies, such as more efficient pick runs and creative storage solutions and tech development.

So what’s next? Phase 2 will involve developing the pack and despatch area, before the final phase of this project to create a new entry/ exit point in logistics. Looking further down the line, additional warehouse space will be integral to our growth plans alongside the implementation of an advanced Warehouse Management System (WMS).
